the aviva badminton open was awesome! got to watch the mixed doubles between singapore and malaysia. singapore won malaysia for the first set 15-8 but unfortunately lost for the second set. the final set was exhilarating as almost the whole stadium was filled with singapore supporters! we cheered, screamed, banged the "air poppers" and blew the "party poppers" which were given out by the staff. a group of guys would shout "Singapore!" in mandarin, and we would all cheer "JIA YOU!" it was sooo cool to see surrounding patriotism. there was a malaysia supporter right at the back, he was middle-aged and was shouting all sorts of hokien insults, he even used a sort of "girly" voice to say "singapore kosong la" when singapore had a nil. then, a group of girls who were fellow s'pore supporters were laughing and shouting back at him "malaysia sucks!".

beside me was this couple who are from china i think, judging from their chinese accent. they were passionate singapore supporters! even though they aren't from singapore i guess. maybe after spending years in singapore they've a special belonging (: singapore's team consisted of henry supatrah and li yujia. whenever either of them smashed, the whole stadium would be filled with people shouting "SHA!", i even heard the china lady next to me shouting "da si ta men!", which means beat them to death :D

however, much to our disappointment, singapore lost to malaysia for the final set, with a score of 13-15. the only person screaming was that middle-age man who kept waving at the malaysian team players (-_-:)

the experience was great though, now i understand how it feels to be at a stadium when an exciting match is going on. for example, in the athens or even during singapore idol :D
